FSIS with UG1 – Live Coverage
(testing)
On the 7th of March 2026, the institute held a UG1 Exclusive Faculty Student Interaction Session. With around 60 enthusiastic students attending the event in order to voice their concerns accompanied by various Members of Parliament. The session covered a broad spectrum of topics ranging from academic scheduling to infrastructure updates.
The interaction opened with students raising concerns about the hectic schedule caused by Sunday make up labs. Prof. Kishore Kothapalli explained the logistical challenges of lab scheduling across different days. Director Sandeep Shukla offered a potential solution by stating that students could request to shift Sunday labs to Saturdays provided they secure the necessary permission from their instructors. The conversation then moved to the topic of leaves for extracurricular activities. Students representing the CANSAT and Frisbee teams expressed difficulties in securing approvals. Prof. Radhika Mamidi and Prof. Aftab Hussain clarified the formal application process through the Clubs Council and noted that teams consisting solely of first year students are generally not given permission to travel to certain cities.
A significant portion of the session was dedicated to addressing the recent disciplinary emails regarding Online Assessment malpractice. Director Shukla and Prof. PJ Narayanan emphasized the absolute necessity of maintaining academic integrity to protect the institute placement system. The administration clarified that the emails were withdrawn not because of a flaw in the evidence but a mistake on their part of not giving the students an opportunity to present their case prior to action being taken against them.
Students also inquired about access to library resources and academic journals and about their ability to borrow books over vacations. The faculty assured attendees that major subscriptions like JSTOR and IEEE are accessible via the campus network and VPN. They noted that occasional access denials are simply due to limits on simultaneous users. They asked the students to either write individually or through Parliament to the library for the purpose of changing the rules regarding borrowing books overs vacations.
Infrastructure and campus facilities were major talking points. In response to complaints about broken water coolers and non-functional air conditioning in workspaces, Mr. GBV Raju and Prof. Tapan Sau promised swift resolutions. Mr. Raju confirmed that AC repairs would be completed within 10 days to prepare for the peak summer heat.
Campus life concerns also included safety around stray animals and water quality. Addressing reports of chasing incidents, a Campus Canine Committee member clarified that the dog in question is a playful teething pup currently undergoing training and confirmed that campus cats are being vaccinated. Regarding hard water issues, Prof. Sunitha Palissery announced that the installation of water softeners has been expanded into a campus wide project expected to be finished by the end of the year.
The session drew to a close with highly anticipated updates on campus construction. Prof. Tapan Sau and Prof. Sunitha Palissery confirmed that civil works for the Academic Block and Student Introspection Center are nearly complete. Furthermore, the first block of the new hostel will be ready to accommodate around 400 occupants by June. The event finally wrapped up with a brief assurance from the administration to address ongoing room cleaning issues in OBH.
