The HSME Conundrum

The allocation of HSME courses has been a painful process for almost everyone involved. As per our reports, the college has been using a sophisticated procedure for allocating HSME courses, based on utilizing various algorithms: randomization. “Randomization” is already a methodology used in IIIT for various problems, and the use of the algorithm for yet another problem is barely surprising. One source, which wished to remain anonymous, reports that the college has been using this algorithm for various other problems already, such as grading. It’s also been told to us that such algorithms are being used globally as well, such as in Arsenal’s Transfer Policy.

While this was a welcome move, the Parliament has come up with a new way to encourage student life in IIIT. It’s reported that the Parliament has proposed an IRL hunger games, with the winner to get all their preferred courses. One student pointed out how retarded the idea was. Another was quick to remark that we already have Value Education classes, so we clearly have experience with retarded decisions in college. Yet another student remarked that this was better than the alternative of taking a random literature course. 

This Hunger Games will happen on campus, and some ground rules have already been announced. For example, cross entry isn’t allowed. As students prepare to face each other in the competition, one thing is clear: we need a better course allocation process.
