Student Activities on Independence Day
Independence Day is undoubtedly one of the most significant days of India’s history. This year, just like every year, the institute had a celebration on 15th August, for the second time in an online mode. Some of the student bodies contributed to this celebration. Here is an article covering a list of student-led activities that happened that day:
TVRQC
The TV Room Quiz Club conducted a quiz on the theme: “India” to celebrate the day, which was completed in two stages: prelims and finals. Prelims had a set of 10 questions and five tie-breaker questions, eliminating 24 of the 30 participating teams. Finals had overall five rounds testing the six teams in various categories.
NSS
NSS Cell of IIIT Hyderabad, in collaboration with Humane Society International-India and RBVR Women’s College, organized a Regional Webinar on “Our Hope for Farm Animals” on India’s 75th Independence Day. The webinar was on the importance of farm animal welfare for a better and more sustainable future not only for animals but also for humans in general.
Music Club
The music club conducted three performances. Aryaman’s “Teri Mitti,” Radhesyam’s “Bharat,” and Jatin’s “Ae Watan” made the day brilliant.
Dance Crew
The Dance Crew contributed to the celebration with three group dance performances on “Ae Watan,” “Rang De Basanti,” and the song “Challa.” Participation of alumni in a few dance videos was another noticeable attribute of these stagings.
LitClub
Lit Club planned an Indian-themed open mic welcoming any Indian language and any form of medium, including poetry and short stories.
DebSoc
DebSoc planned the event Shipwreck, which assigned popular characters from Indian history to the participants. The participants had to prove why their character deserved to survive over the character they were pitted against.
Surprisingly, each of the two events (Open Mic by LitClub and Shipwreck by DebSoc) eventually led the participants and spectators to discuss the horrifying situation in Afghanistan.
Student Parliament
Shivaan Sehgal, the General Secretary of the Student’s Parliament, delivered the annual report. This was followed by the mandatory oath taken by the members of parliament swearing to perform their duties unconditionally.
