New Apex Formed
apex
/ˈeɪpɛks/
noun
The Apex Body of IIIT Hyderabad remains one of the most significant and recognizable committees in college. Tasked with helping freshers make the transition from clueless high school graduates to slightly more clued-in college freshmen, the Apex committee takes care of the majority of the admission process. From conducting interviews for the UGEE candidates to holding an elaborate induction schedule to accompanying freshers on their first college trip, the Apex committee is one with immense power and responsibility.
The newly appointed Apex consists of a cohort of eight new members for the undergraduate batch and five new members for the post-graduate batch. There was a delay in choosing the new Apex members owing to the Corona pandemic. The SLC and existing Apex corresponded to make the interviewing process possible on Microsoft Teams.
The undergraduate Apex selections were done via two rounds of interviews after 54 interested students from the 2k18 batch applied for the position. They were first interviewed by the existing Apex members and shortlisted, allowing 25 students to move on to the next round. Finally, 8 out of the 25 members were chosen after being interviewed by the Student Life Committee(SLC) chair, Professor Radhika Mamidi. The new members are Manas Kabre, Bhavyajeet Singh, Shreeya Pahune, Rohan Grover, Srinath Nair, Tushar Patra Jamula, Kowshik Vishwanadha, and Tanvi Karandikar. These members will carry out a term of two years. The form for mentor applications is currently open
The postgraduate Apex selections were done via one round of interviews where 13 interested students applied for the position and 5 were shortlisted. And 3 were put onto a waitlist. The new members are Ashish Kempwad, Harshit Pandey, Maria Rose Johnson, Anoop Karnik Dasika, and Tushar Chandra.
Professor Radhika Mamidi congratulated the newly appointed members and expressed the need for the Apex body to be stronger during these unpredictable times.
