IIIT Hyderabad Conducts First Vaccination Drive for Students, Faculty and More
As the second wave of the pandemic died down, it became evident that swift and effective vaccination was the surest way to return to some semblance of normalcy. In keeping with this, the institute conducted a vaccination drive on campus on 15th June 2021. Interested participants were asked to fill forms sent via email with their choice of vaccine – either Covishield or Covaxin.
The drive was conducted at KCIS on campus. The registration and CoWIN verification booths were spaced out and the three vaccination stations were located in separate places, following all social distancing rules. Barricades were set up to guide participants along the process. A team of about 15 student volunteers was tasked with attending to the booths and facilitating smooth flow of the process, as well as ensuring social distancing. The volunteers worked alongside staff members, housekeeping personnel and the Aarogya nurse. Regular hand sanitisation was practised, and masks were enforced. First aid was available in case anyone had an adverse reaction to the vaccine.
The drive saw a huge turnout of around 410 people, split almost equally among those receiving Covaxin and Covishield. The drive was open to everyone associated with the institute, such as housekeeping, mess employees, security, CIE employees, students and faculty, as well as their families.
Overall, the participants seemed satisfied with the planning and execution of the drive. There are plans to organize another drive for people requiring their second dose of vaccination.
