Felicity: Day 3!

Chess tournament

Day 3 kicked off with the chess tournament, conducted by the Chess Club at 1200h. It was in the format of a 3+2 Swiss tournament, and it was held across 2 divisions. The event was challenging and enjoyable for all the participants, and went off amazingly well.

Treasure hunt

Treasure Hunt was conducted in collaboration by LitClub and the Language Club. The event had fun riddles and mind-boggling puzzles that sent the participants all over campus. The event incorporated two paths, a language path and a literature path, and participants had to follow one path to get the final key. The participants had to collect stickers from the different locations and were given a hint to the next clue by a strip of paper or in some cases, a QR Code. The event was a huge success.

VimGolf

VimGolf was conducted by Vim@IIIT-H, and it was an event aimed at testing veteran vim users against each other by presenting challenging problems, and at giving budding vimmers a chance to learn tips and tricks to improve their text editing skills. The goal was to edit the 6 problem files to make them match with the required output files using the least number of keystrokes. Simply editing the input file to look like the given example output file would not work either, as there were multiple undisclosed test cases. This was to encourage a functional paradigm for text editing, which makes these techniques more general and efficient. About 22 people participated, and solutions to all the problems were discussed, which led to the event being a very useful and fun experience for all the participants. All participants were given free food, and all in all the event was a success.

Evening show

The evening show began at 9 PM with a performance by The Coastal Project’s RMP Arasada accompanied by Niteesh Kondiparti on the guitar. RMP, an IIIT alumnus, performed Telugu songs like Hoyna Hoyna and Asha Pasham along with Hindi songs like Give Me Some Sunshine and Enna Sona. The performance was attended by a number of students and faculty who enjoyed the amazing music and sang along with the performers.

The next part of the show was the performance by Arjun Kanungo and saw a large number of students coming to watch him perform. Arjun performed songs like Aaya Na Tu, Baaki Baatein Peene Baad, Fursat, Tu Jo Mila, among many others. He also performed western songs like Bang Bang, STAY and Blinding Lights. Arjun also interacted with the crowd whenever he could. The exciting performances, his fabulous vocals and the amazing tunes played by his band saw the large crowd gathered dancing and singing along with him.
