Felicity: DAY 2!

Battle of the Brains

The Battle of the Brains was TVRQC’s flagship event at Felicity 2022. The quiz was hosted online by Thejaswi Udupa, a Semi-finalist at BBC Mastermind India 2002, a multiple-time national finalist at Landmark Quiz, a multiple-time winner of TATA Crucible Corporate Quiz’s regional editions, a tech entrepreneur in Bangalore, and a nationally renowned Quizmaster.

The preliminary round of the quiz was held over Wikiquiz from 12:30 PM to 1 PM. About 94 people participated in this round. The top eight scorers of this round were allowed to participate in the finals and got a chance to battle each other for a prize pool of Rs. 10000. The finals were held on Microsoft Teams at 2 PM and were attended by the quizmaster, the finalists, and the organizers. Deeptansh Sharma of UG1 came really close to the finals, having come 9th in the prelims. However, he couldn’t qualify. Arun T P won the quiz after a close contest with three others.

Questions for the prelims revolved around books, art and architecture, while questions for the finals revolved around sports, science, and geography. The questions were fun and required contestants to rack their brains to find the answers.

Roadblock

This event, organised by the Music Club, took place between 3:30 PM and 6:30 PM on the Srujana intersection and allowed participants to come up and play an instrument and/or sing: completely impromptu. People from all batches and even non-student attendees were allowed to showcase their musical prowess and set the stage ablaze.

Solo, duet and even 4-member band performances took classics from all genres of music and played them with great passion and energy. The event was graced by Monster Energy, an event sponsor, who gave out free drinks to all attendees.

Ramp walk

Felicity 2022’s Ramp Walk, the first seated event of Day 2, charged up the evening for everything that followed as the audience cheered and hooted at seeing their mates sway their hips and stare down the audience with stern, sultry looks. The dresses ranged from the desi Kurthas and Sarees to two-piece suits, halter dresses, and gowns with many participants turning with the face-paints that they’d gotten on during ArtSoc’s event. The loud music played, which made the heart and eardrums throb, as the participants walked, included many popular themes, songs both in Hindi and English, also giving a nod to the 2007 song “Fashion ka hain Jalwa”.

Skit

A key feature of every Felicity is the skit, performed every year. This time was no exception. This time around, the skit was centered around the, * ahem *, strange COVID policies implemented by campus administration. The skit was a parody of the classic comedy “The Dictator”. It was a hilarious performance, as the cast dressed up and played many popular IIITH figures, with a twist on each of their names, such as Dr. Hussein Sagar, OK-Ready and so on. The skit told the story of the hypocritical Aladean Appadean Rasputin, who cared very little for the student demands to begin with, but after experiencing his own policies firsthand, saw the dismal state in which he had left his institute, and decided to bring some much-needed reform. It was an interesting take on some relatively new and some long-standing issues that most students could relate to quite easily.

Footbids

Footbids was a collaborative event, jointly organized by the Amateur Sports Enthusiasts Club, or ASEC, and E-Cell. The event was held in SH2, in the Vindhya building, with people forming teams of four or five, to take part in a thrilling strategy-based auction event. The event was a tournament between the 8 teams that registered. Football players from multiple clubs and eras, including both current and retired players would be put up for auction to the highest bidder. After the auctions were finished, the teams so formed were put through a FIFA simulation, to decide the winner. The event lasted an intense 5 hours, with high stakes in every game, and was won by Bengaluru FC.

Chess

The Open Chess event was conducted on 19th, at JC. Anyone could openly challenge their friends or chess club members for a chess match. Those who defeated club members were awarded with treats. There was a continuous influx of people willing to challenge across several variants.

DJ Night

The second day of Felicity went out with the featured performance of Day 2. DJ KD Belle and Lost Stories came on stage, and played banger after banger as they kicked off a dance party for the ages. This highly anticipated event began at 8:45 PM in the Felicity ground and went all the way until midnight. Specifically, DJ KD Belle performed from 8:45 to 9:30 PM. Lost Stories then arrived on stage and set it ablaze with his tracks.
