Felicity 2021 – Day 1
Felicity 2021 officially began on the 25th of February in an entirely online mode. While the format is challenging, event organisers kicked off Felicity well. Here’s a quick recap of day one:
The Inaugurals opened with music performances from The Music Club, held as a live stream on YouTube with pre-recorded performances. It started with two band performances from UG1, playing an energetic performance of Teeth by FSOS and a mashup of Paani Da x Illahi x You Raise Me Up, with bass, guitar, piano, violin, and drum performances. This was followed by a UG2 cover of Save Rock and Roll. Then, a 17-minute-long medley by UG3 with Aadat, Superheroes and Choo Lo back to back brought the music event to a close.
The live stream had about 500 live viewers, with students joining in and hyping up the performers. After the music performances, Felicity saw the first of three comedians – Rahul Dua.
This session was followed by the Dance Crew, who also had pre-recorded performances. It started with a group performance of songs such as Makhna and Illegal Weapon, followed by classical and western solo performances. The second half had performances by everyone from UG2 and UG3, with a variety of group performances. The dance event was brought to a close by UG3 pumping out meme after meme after meme for 6 minutes in a comical performance.
The day ended on a high note with a hilarious performance put up by Aakash Gupta – a stand-up comedian and winner of Comicstaan season two.
Apart from these events, Day 1 also saw some competitions and workshops held by various clubs:
Treasure Hunt – Lit Club and Hacking Club
This year’s treasure hunt was conducted by Lit Club in collaboration with the Hacking Club. The typical treasure hunt was brought online via a Capture the Flag approach. A series of cryptic clues were provided to teams alongside a story, with clues pointing to flags hidden in various IIIT websites.
Space Escapade – Astronomy Club
Space Escapade was an online mystery room challenge organised by the Astronomy Club. Two-person teams were trapped in a digital spacecraft where they had to solve a few puzzles to escape back to Earth.
Paint Workshop – Art Society
Mr Deepak Sharma, a popular watercolour artist on Instagram, taught watercolour technique. He started from the basics of planning a sketch and composing a scene to using the medium. Students left the workshop with a greater understanding of various styles and tonal variation that could be used for making scenescapes. The interactive event was live streamed on Twitch with the artist guiding participants throughout.
Footbids – ECell
The event was organised by ECell and ASEC together at 8pm, going on till 12am. It consisted of an IPL styled auction, with the FIFA cards being sold in various lists. Each team were given a starting budget of 500 million with the goal to create a perfect team. There was a trading session conducted before the final buying round, where teams could trade cards for other cards or monetary fees. After the teams were made, each team had to submit their formation, and their matches were simulated on FIFA20.
