Campus Dogs
Hey there, freshers! Welcome to IIIT, where your much awaited college life begins. Festivals, events, parties, tough projects, “dead” lines, and… oh dear, that became dreary real quick, didn’t it? Well luckily for you, we have our own way to deal with stress, aka the dogs around the campus. For those of you who love dogs, you’re in for a great time playing with them. And well, for those of you who’re kinda scared of dogs, don’t worry, this guide will help you get around campus without getting spooked 🙂
Gopi
Chocolate brown in colour with some patches of white, Gopi is one of the friendliest dogs on campus and loves human interaction. She is probably the one you would most frequently encounter, likely to be found at the Himalaya building or at Bakul. Gopi also happens to be academically oriented as she attends most classes in H-105 and H-205. (Literally reached the examination hall before most students for quizzes, sigh) Profs say that she might get a B. Tech degree soon. Gopi also responds well to handshakes, you might want to give it a try.
Lily
This one’s your workspace buddy – you will often find her lying around in one of the workspaces in Vindhya (she loves the A/C), or at the Vindhya Canteen. Of late, she is often spotted doing morning yoga on the bridge connecting Vindhya and Himalaya. She’s also got her favourite humans – will jump over the benches/steps to sit with them. You can identify Lily by the black patch on her back.
Oreo
Oreo is a combination of white colour, brown patches and fluff. She is very friendly and may get excited sometimes. You will perhaps notice her make gruff voices occasionally which can be intimidating, but that’s because of a throat problem – nothing to be scared of this adorable dog, really. Find her lying around near the Kadambh mess or hostel, or near the football ground.
Goodboi
The main gate area is the permanent residence of this mild brown dog. Goodboi is indeed a good boy in all aspects – he is mostly friendly, docile, will peacefully eat whatever you give him, and not in the least troublesome while getting bandaids, treatment and stuff.
Cousin
Cousin is the oldest dog on campus. He is white coloured with light brown patches and has a lean frame. Approximately 12 – 13 years of age, Cousin is very meek and does not come too close to humans. You can generally spot him outside the Kadambh mess.
Batman
This one’s black coloured with straight raised ears and serious eyes. You’ll mostly find him at the Vindhya A6 entrance (library area) or at the football ground. Another calm and friendly dog.
Tofu
Light brown in colour, she sleeps throughout the day near the Banyan Tree at OBH Circle, and spends the night (mostly awake) at JC. She can sometimes be found taking a nap inside the Tantra dining hall. Tofu is overly-friendly but dislikes unsolicited hugs.
Waffle
A very calm and friendly dog, Waffle is white coloured with large brown patches. CCC people told me pigeons are his favourite snack. Well, he’s been taught to eat from his bowl exclusively, and he does obey that – not his fault really if some bluish-grey feathered creature decides to sit in his food bowl.
Scissor (AKA Ceasar)
Caesar’s the youngest dog on campus. He is light brown in colour with hints of black near the mouth and behind the ears. Teething on unattended slippers is his favourite pastime. He is a very lively dog and has been trained to shake hands in return for snacks. Be careful near him though, he has a knack of pulling at people’s clothes. Insider news: he supposedly has a bromance with Waffle.
Auto (AKA Tripod)
Auto is a brown coloured three-legged dog. He resides at the power station area near the main gate parking. He is reserved and mostly avoids humans.
Sheru
Sheru’s likely to be found at JC or near the football ground. Dark brown in colour, he’s one of the furriest dogs on campus and is usually seen chasing the other dogs. He might look intimidating but is quiet with humans.
Leo
Leo is the handsome boy of the lot – a mild brown coloured dog with a piercing gaze. He howls like a wolf and has an imposing appearance that resembles a wolf. He is mostly timid but is playful from a distance. You will encounter him outside the Kadambh mess most of the time.
Jeff (AKA Jeff the deaf dog)
Jeff is a fairly recent addition to the dog gang of IIIT, joining our campus earlier this year. Brownish with black and white patches, he mostly stays at Bakul and is partly deaf. Along with Leo, he bullies the other dogs of the campus.
Trunks
The guardian of the library junction, Trunks is a medium-light brown coloured dog. Like Lily, he has his favourite humans and can recognize them by the sound of their footsteps alone. His favourite job is to chase speeding vehicles. He is always at the helm of dog fights with Leo, Jeff and their gang.
Paper
Paper is another slim medium-light brown coloured dog. He kinda resembles Trunk in appearance but is meeker compared to him. The most agile of the dogs, Paper runs about effortlessly like a feather. He is a moody dog-will be friendly and calm sometimes, but can be quite timid too.
Muscle
Brown in colour, found near Felicity ground or Kadamb nivas. She is one of the least energetic dogs, and likes to be petted.
Chess
Chess is a black dog with a white patch at the front and white coloured paws, and mainly resides at the Felicity Ground or in front of NBH. He is the one to initiate barking at speeding vehicles or other dogs, and the rest of the gang joins in.
Spotty
White coloured with light brown patches at the back, she is a very friendly and calm dog, mainly found outside the Kadambh mess.
Greyhound
Greyhound is sometimes found relaxing outside the SBI or CIE in Vindhya, other times he’ll stay hidden due to his shy nature. He is white coloured with a grey patch covering its back and tail. He is also docile but very friendly. Belly rubs are his favourite.
Rosie
Mild brown with white colour at the paws, Rosie is a calm, shy and timid dog with a peculiar walk, like that of an ageing woman. She rarely barks. Consider yourself fortunate if Rosie allows you to pet her :). You’ll catch sight of her resting peacefully at JC most of the time.
Chintu
Chintu is the plumpiest of all the dogs – man doesn’t refuse literally anything you give him to eat. Mainly stays at Bakul or the amphitheatre. Another friendly creature, Chintu is brown with hints of black. Rumour has it that chicken shawarma is his favourite snack.
Alexander
Fondly called Alex. Quite a furry white dog – mostly found at the Himalaya or Vindhya. She is very friendly and may get excited occasionally. You’ll find her sleeping on the benches near Nilgiri – Her Highness rarely sleeps on the ground.
Max
He’s brown coloured and lives mainly at Bakul, but can be found napping at the amphitheatre also. He’s an amiable and pliant dog who also loves giving handshakes.
Shiny
Shiny was a beloved campus dog with a black shiny coat of fur. She mainly resided at the college main gate with GoodBoi. Shiny passed away earlier this month due to an illness.
Brownie
Fondly known as Fatty, Brownie was the laziest dog on the campus. One would always find her dozing along the foot walks on the road to the library from the Kadambh mess.
Unfortunately, she too has left us due to an illness.
