Shelved
Her eyes are orbs of smouldering darkness
And into them I gaze.
They pull my thoughts off their harness,
And all my walls they raze.
I feel her subtle anger,
It radiates in little waves
It makes my resolve stagger
And the demons are back in their caves.
I clear my throat to speak
Scared of what she’d say
But suddenly I feel quite meek,
And I give up right away.
Not today, I tell myself,
Now is not the time.
So once again my emotions I shelf
And say, “Seriously, mom, I’m fine.”
